A memorable day for under-privileged kids

Rotary Club Bangalore Lakeside members celebrated children’s day with the students and teachers of adopted Deverabesanahalli Govt Primary School on Saturday, Nov 21st 2009. Some of the Rotarians planned a belated fun filled celebration with under privileged students one month before the event and with everyone’s consent; we organized it on Nov 21st so that most of the members can participate.

The celebration started with drawing and coloring competition. All students of all classes (1st standard to 7th standard) were provided papers, crayons, color pencils and encouraged to choose any theme and give shape to their imagination and creativity. We were amazed with children’s imagination as we got a collection of drawings on various topics like Flag hoisting, Water cycle, Environment, forest scenes, residences, geometric patterns, etc.  Judges reviewed collection of drawings on various topics and selected best two from each class.

An enthralling Magic show was next and nearly 220 students and teachers alike had great fun watching skills of Magician Sudhakar. Many children were called on stage and they all participated eagerly.  At the end, students were taught to perform few tricks as well.

After this, Opportunity was given to each class to showcase various talents on stage. What followed was ensemble of singing, dancing, enacting. Organizers were spell bound by some of the talents of students in this school in our vicinity. One of the students performed excellent break dance and according to a teacher, he has learnt it by watching TV in neighbor’s house..!

Function ended with prize distribution by President of club Rtn Vinod Agarwal. Winners of competition are Kirti & Goutam. (1st Standard). Lakshmi & Nagaveni ( 2nd Standard). Gouri & Asha (3rd Standard). Anil Kumar & Shilpa (4th Standard). Nishikant & Lakshmi (5th standard). Raghavendra and Nagalaxmi (6th Standard) and Harshavardan & Ramya (7th Standard).

All the materials, cost of function and prizes were borne by voluntary contributions from club members & their friends. All the students got a participation gift arranged through charity collections during children’s day function in Sobha Mayflower apartment. Teachers thanked all members of Rotary club especially Rtn Anantha, Rtn Srihari, Rtn Hariprakash, Rtn Ankit, Rtn Rama, Rtn Ramakrishnan for organizing this event and all students gave a UNIQUE rocket clap with interesting pattern of claps ending with a blast off of joy and laughter.

About 2 months back, Rotary Bangalore Lakeside club adopted Deverabesanahalli Government school as part of its services to adjoining communities. An MoU has been signed with Department of Public Instruction under Shala Dattu Yojane.  Some of the programme of action worked out as part of this effort are:
